Mess

I don't like it. So there. Let's kick off with a song (it's that sort of a day).

I've learned how to do a thing! If it's worked, you should hear, here, the marvellous Spooky Men singing The Mess Song. There wasn't a YouTube version, so the Thing I learned to do (or possibly didn't) is to embed a song from my collection.

I do like transformations of Mess into Order. One of the best things about The Railway Children was the way they (or perhaps it was Mother) Set To and made their new house a home, be it ever so humble.

The kind of mess I dislike most of all is other people's. Nuff said.

Anyhoo, what got me thinking about mess was this:

It arrived some days ago and stayed in its outer packaging until today. It is now unboxed, but still sealed.

I fear it will Make Mess.

Will I dare to go further? Will Dick and Snowy escape? Stay tuned for the next exciting instalment.

Nice to see you - pop in any time.

PS - ok, I see I haven't learned how to do a thing. Buy the cd - it's called Tooled Up and it is excellent. And if you ever get a chance to see them (they often tour the UK) seize it with both hands. They are fantastic performers. And they can grow beards if they want to.

  1. You rejected all the others singing it then? Not that it would have made any difference to me because my sound connection is playing up and I couldn't even listen to Dick Barton :-(

GESSO???? You are way down the addiction path lol

    Enjoy.......

  3. Is it just the picture, or is that a HUGE pot of gesso? Looks like 5 litres at least... It will make mess, but so worth it! And all washable with water...

  5. What manner of thing is gesso? Is it to do with ceramics? Are you becoming a Big Crafty Girl???

  6. Good evening LL. I see you become shorter with each comment. Gesso is an artistic gubbinsy thing. It primes surfaces and apparently forms a "tooth" (I think I read that somewhere, however bonkers it sounds) so that other artistic gubbinsy things will go on over it. And it makes a weedy page a little tougher. Or something. As you can see, I am an expert. yours, BGC

  7. Thank you for that explanation, although I fear for your uprightness and tidiness, allowing such a sticky, toothy thing into your home. Is a 'tooth' like a 'key', apparently provided by sanding shiny surfaces, to enable paint to stick on? We have all the lingo. You BCG. If you're not careful you'll soon be sending packages of crafted creations to complete strangers in swaps. I believe that sort of thing goes on a lot.

  9. Just found you a day or so ago. Wish I could remember who sent me in your direction so I could thank them. Can't believe I have gone so long without you in my daily web life. But now I do. YEA!!!

  10. I don't know whether it's a terrible breach of etiquette to comment on the designatory nomenclature of other repliers, BUT why was Lady Longstaff "LL" all of a sudden? I didn't like it and I felt much better when she returned in her non-abbreviated form.

It did look like a ginormous tub of gesso. I feared for a moment that you were planning to forego the pleasures of upcycling junk mail and get to work on the other members of your household.

  11. I have found The Spooky Men. I am going to revive my campaign for the kilt to become established as standard daywear for men. Lady Longstaff, can you see his Lordship being prevailed upon to spearhead the campaign? I think the leafy boulevards surrounding Longstaff Hall would be much enhanced thereby...

  12. gesso'd people! Yes! Bit like the polystyrene people in the library at Lower Loxley...Would you like Lord L to sport Spooky headgear as well as kilt?

  13. Alison and I were very very sad to miss a workshop with Chief Spooky Man last week. Well, for all I know it's next week, or fifteen weeks ago or heaven knows when. My brain has turned to mush.
